Vasco Ribeiro was crowned European Surfing Champion at the Estrella Galicia Caparica Surf Fest, this weekend, in Costa da Caparica, as he passed the quarter-finals of the world qualifying round.
Upon becoming European Champion, the Portuguese athlete guaranteed direct access to the Challengers, which is the only circuit that allows qualification for the 1st division of the world surf circuit, CT.
In an excellent professional phase, surfer Vasco Ribeiro now starts qualifying for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.
From May 29 to June 6, the ISA World Surfing Games will be held in El Salvador, where the top 5 classified in each category will qualify directly for the Olympic Games.
In the senior male category, each country can only have 2 surfers, so Vasco will fight for the last spot.
For the first time this year, surfing will be present at the Olympic Games. The events, which bring together 40 athletes (20 women and 20 men), will take place in Ichinomiya Bay, from 25 to 28 July. The sport is also confirmed in the schedule of the Paris 2024 Games, whose events will be held in Tahiti.
